significance of the electric light bulb

Invented in 1879 by Thomas Alva Edison, the electric light bulb was a huge advancement in technology. The most important thing that the light bulb does is allow people to be productive at night. This of course is a huge advantage for businesses, and mankind in general. Simply put, the light bulb allows for more work to be accomplished. Electric light itself was first made in 1800 by Humphry Davy. This starting point allowed Edison and others to perfect the science, eventually leading to the light bulb. Our electrified world had to start somewhere.

  1. Yes, and electric light was in many ways the impetus for electrification itself. And without it, there would be no possibility of a society going 24/7/365, for good and for ill.
