Alan Kay

Alan Curtis Kay (born May 17, 1940) is an Americancomputer scientist, known for his early pioneering work on object-oriented programming and windowing graphical user interface design.

Beofre today, I knew absolutely nothing about Alan Kay. However, immediately after reading about him I knew why he was included on the list of key terms and people. Alan Kay worked on object-oriented programming and windowing graphical user interface designs, both of which people use every day. When people log on their computers, unless they have MSDos, they are using a graphical user interface, i.e. Windows. Object Oriented programming is popular as well. Visual Basic .NET and C# are both used for Windows .NET platform and Java.

  1. Kay was the first to talk about the computer as a medium, and in fact as a metamedium!

  2. I've used object oriented programming and never really knew who pioneered this type of programming. Things such as objects, classes, inheritance, interfaces, and packages are some of the basic concepts needed to make object oriented programs.
